Asian Community Council Meeting
We initiated the meeting with New York City Police Department (NYPD) 72 Precinct and 66 Precinct in 2015 to build a closer relationship between the police department and the Asian population in Brooklyn. Every precinct holds a community meeting every month to address the public about any emerging issues and residents’ questions; however, the attendance of the Asian population was always very low due to language barrier, time and location of the meeting. Therefore, we were determined to bring the meeting to the heart of Brooklyn Chinatown to provide the Asian communities an opportunity to voice their concerns. With the collaboration and dedication of Brooklyn Patrol Borough South and the local precincts, we held our first Asian Community Council Meeting in May 2015 which attracted well over 200 audiences. It has been a success since then and it is now held regularly every month.
